University of North Dakota Sees Uptick in
2021 Enrollment Over 2020, 2019 Numbers
The re-emergence of COVID-19 and the Delta Variant in recent weeks has not put a damper on students coming to the University of North Dakota this year, with enrollment numbers trending up over last year as well as up over 2019’s numbers as well.
Janelle Kilgore, the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management, spoke on behalf of the University. During the pandemic, the university “worked really hard to recruit students,” she said, and they’re also “happy to see students know UND is the place for them.” With 13,545 students, 2021’s fall semester count was up one percent from 2020’s count and almost 1.5 percent above 2019’s.
New first-year students and graduate students led the enrollment climb this year. New freshmen increased by 154 students over 2020, and with graduate students, there was an increase of 213 students. Official numbers won’t be available until late September, when the North Dakota University System’s Census Day takes place.
