Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Arrives in August

Sucker Punch Production’s Ghost of Tsushima released on July 17th, 2020 to near-universal acclaim on the PlayStation 4. In the past year, a new cooperative mode has been added, and there’s even a movie in the works based on Jin Sakai’s tale.

Now, in 2021, Sucker Punch has announced the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. The super-sized package will include the base game and all content created for the game to this date. In addition, there’s going to be a new area and a new story for players to explore.

Not Just a Remaster

Iki Island will feature a new story for Jin, who was sent to investigate rumors relating to Mongols. Iki Island, like Tsushima, is also a real place and was invaded during the same time period as Tsushima. Sucker Punch didn’t have much to share about Iki Island at the time of the Director’s Cut announcement, but there will be new enemies, new mini-games, and new armor for Jin and his horse among other things. The Iki content will also have a new set of trophies.

The Director’s Cut will also include some PlayStation 5 specific features. The main game, Legends, and the Iki Island expansion will all take advantage of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers thanks to the Dualsense controller. Enhancements were also made to audio, load times will be “drastically” improved, and framerates will target 60 FPS.

Sucker Punch has also addressed community feedback about the lack of Japanese lip-sync in the original game. Thanks to how the PlayStation 5 can render cinematics there will be lip sync for Japanese voice-over.

If you own Ghost of Tsushima on the PlayStation 4, you can pre-order the Director’s Cut PS4 upgrade for $19.99. Starting on August 20th, if you purchased the Director’s Cut on the PlayStation 4, you can upgrade to the Director’s Cut on the PlayStation 5 for $9.99.
