Amazon Games Opens New Studio In Montreal

Joining the ranks of Development Studios in Seattle, Orange County, and San Diego, Amazon announced they’ve opened a fourth in Montreal this week.

Founding members of the studio include Luc Bouchard, Xavier Marquis, Alexandre Remy, and Romain Rimokh. The four are veterans of the industry who most recently all worked together on Rainbow Six Siege. They’re not straying far from what they know with their first project, which they’ve billed as an online multiplayer game that’ll be based on a new IP.

Amazon has high hopes for the studio. In a press release, Christoph Hartmann, VP, Amazon Games had this to say: “The highly skilled and experienced team at our new Montreal studio shares our commitment to creating best-in-class online games, and brings with them a wealth of knowledge and passion for building deep, community-focused multiplayer experiences. I look forward to watching them invent on behalf of customers as they grow their team and develop their first project.

Amazon’s record with game development hasn’t been the best in recent years. Breakaway, their first major effort, was canceled in 2018. Crucible released in May 2020, only to return to closed beta in June of the same year and be canceled in October. New World will be releasing this August.
