Lost in Random is the latest from Swedish studio Zoink and the next game in the EA Originals lineup. Zoink is also the team behind Fe, the first game published under the EA Originals label in 2018.

Zoink was founded in 2001 by Klaus Lyngeled. The company pivoted to animated films and advertisements in 2003. In 2010, they released The Kore Gang for the Wii, but their breakout title was Stick it to the Man! in 2013.

During EA Play at E3 in 2016, Fe was announced as the first game in the newly announced EA Originals label, and the adventure-platformer released in February 2018. In 2020, Zoink’s parent company Thunderful merged the studio Guru Games and Image & Form to form Thunderful Entertainment.

Getting Lost in the Random

After watching the announcement trailer for the game in 2020, I was obsessed with Lost in Random. The art, the voices, the Tim Burton-esque vibes to it; it was all there. It just looked fun, and we all needed more fun in the Summer of 2020 (I’d been furloughed from Best Buy, and I remember wishing this game would come out soon). And this year, with the Delta Variant threatening to put us back into quarantine and lockdowns, more fun is needed.

There’s no better way to describe Lost in Random’s premise than from the developers themselves:

Welcome to the world of Random, a dark kingdom where every citizen’s future is determined by the roll of a dice. Will you be defeated by your fate or embrace chaos and learn to make it work in your favor? Embark on a journey with Even and her companion Dicey to play the odds and break the curse of Random.

EA’s Lost in Random Website

I’m into this. Combat takes place in arenas that look straight out of a board game. There are cards involved (Cheat, Damage, Defense, Hazard, and Weapon), and there are even some RPG elements to the game. (I’m so excited to laugh and love the NPC’s that show up.) When I’ve played it, I’m sure I’ll be able to describe the gameplay better. This video does a great job of showing it off.
