New Series: Hidden Gems

Why is this new series called ‘Hidden Gems’? For a very simple reason. I’ve worked somewhere upwards of a decade in retail; most of that video game related retail. I love talking to gamers in that capacity. Love hearing what they’re playing and why they’re playing it. And most of all, I love making recommendations based on what they’ve told me. (“Hey, you’ve played this? Try THIS!”)

I freaking love indie games. This series is going to show off a lot of them. One of these days, I’ll post pictures of my Steam Library/Xbox One games/PS4 games. Yes, I do adore my certain set of AAA games, but my bread and butter will always be the indie titles from small developers.

Ever read Blood, Sweat, and Pixels from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier? There’s an incredible chapter about how Stardew Valley came to be. I love those stories. SO MUCH.

If I can even make one person go, “Hey, that sounds interesting! I should give it a try!” then this is a win.

This series of blogs (and maybe videos) is dedicated to the often written-off, less known indie titles. (Scratch that. Some of them are quite well known for awards and things, just not often-played.) As Ashley Johnson put it ever so eloquently as she accepted a BAFTA award for her portrayal of Ellie in The Last of Us:

“This is for the tomboys, and the misfits, and the weirdos, and the outcasts, and the ones who didn’t really fit in – you can sit at my table.”

Welcome to my metaphorical table.
